Why Accountability Feels Like a Burden and How to Make it a Strength

Accountability isn’t just a word. It’s a Catalyst for Leadership Excellence.

In my keynotes, I challenge audiences to take one actions step on a new idea before 10:00 a.m. the next morning.

It’s a simple request to start, most don’t finish.

Then, I ask them to check in with an accountability partner.

I rarely get people to follow through.

Why?

Because accountability is tough. Not because we don’t believe in it, but because it exposes our habits, fears, and blind spots.

Too often, accountability is misused. It becomes a tool to assign blame rather than a process to to build trust.

It’s easy to hold others accountable but harder to turn that mirror on ourselves.
